Oak Moon – Pockets of Love Update

Welcome to the Full Moon Blog series!

I’ve been really enjoying writing my Wheel of the Year Newsletter for my subscribers. It has helped me engage more deeply with the eight pagan festivals of the Wheel of the Year, connecting me with the change in seasons and the spiritual cycle of the year. I have found that it has really inspired my creativity and having a deadline really helps me to focus!

I have decided to apply the same strategy to writing my blog posts and so I have chosen to celebrate the Moon throughout the year. This month, November, sees us welcome the Oak Moon in the Celtic tradition. For more about the meaning of the Oak Moon see the section at the end of my blog.

A wee update on the Pockets of Love project

In this section of my full moon blog I’ll keep you updated on the Pockets of Love project. Currently I’m waiting to hear back from Creative Scotland about a funding application to launch the Pockets of Love project to the public in 2026. Please send your magical blessings for a positive outcome!

In the mean time, I’m launching a pilot group in the Hebrides with support from An Lanntair. If you live in the Hebrides, you are welcome to join us in making the very first Pockets of Love! We’ll be meeting on Tuesday 18th November 2025 at 2pm, on Zoom for an introductory session to meet each other and discuss the different ways to get involved – through making pockets or researching the lives of the women who were accused of Witchcraft in the Hebrides. Seeking a way to honour their lives

There were four women accused of Witchcraft in the Hebrides during the 17th Century Scottish Witch Hunts. On the Isle of Lewis in 1631, sisters Christian Riache and Marie McGillimikel from Stornoway were accused, and Christian was executed we do not know what happened to Marie. In Skye in 1670, Marie Nian from Feaull was accused of Witchcraft and on Tiree in 1611, Marioun Tailyeor from Tayre/Bryhainge was accused. Following the end of the period that the 1563 Scottish Witchcraft act was in law, Katherine MacKinnon was attacked by a man who accused her of Witchcraft in 1747 and murdered by him at Camuscross on Skye.

The Oak Moon

As promised, I will end with some Moon magic! In November the days are short and the nights are increasingly long, but we do get to enjoy the presence of the beautiful Oak Moon.

This month the Oak Moon was a super full moon, as the moon was at its closest point to the earth, so if you were lucky enough to get out and see it, she was looking truly magnificent!

As I start my journey engaging more deeply with the moon, I am struck by the many names and associations that different cultures have with the Moon. Our relationship with the Moon is both universal and mystical.

I have recently acquired this beautiful set of Ogham oracle cards, so here is the Ogham for Oak – Dair, to send you a blessing of wisdom, endurance and sacred strength for the coming month. Artist: Olivia Wylie
